Neste trabalho documental, Ana Carolina compartilha a experiência de ter convivido por cerca de dois anos no casarão da Lapa, centro do Rio de Janeiro, onde vive uma comunidade de travestis. O primeiro contato aconteceu quando conheceu a travesti Luana Muniz, também conhecida como “A Rainha da Lapa”. Luana é a dona do casarão e aluga quartos para outros travestis morarem e, eventualmente, fazerem programas, já que todas trabalham se prostituindo. Em março de 2011, a fotógrafa começou a frequentar o lugar. “Cheguei ao casarão sem nenhum julgamento ou moralismo. Muito pelo contrário, tinha simpatia pelos travestis. Só comecei a fotografar depois que elas começaram a ter total confiança em mim, o que ocorreu muito rápido e logo depois veio a cumplicidade. Sempre foi um trabalho feito com muita verdade e isso ficava muito claro,” conta Ana Carolina. “Muito mais do que dar voz a um grupo de pessoas que vivem na exclusão e à margem da sociedade, eu queria dar um corpo e mostrar a beleza delas”, complementa.
In this documentary work, Ana Carolina shares her experience of having photographed for about two years in the big house at Lapa neighborhood, downtown Rio de Janeiro, where a community of transvestites live. The first contact came when she met a transvestite, Luana Muniz, also known as “The Queen of Lapa.”. Luana is the owner of the big house and rents rooms to other transvestites to live and work, since all of them work as prostitutes. In March 2011, the photographer started frequenting the place. “I got to the big house without any judgment or morality. On the contrary, I had sympathy for the transvestites. I only started shooting after they got full confidence in me, which happened very fast and soon after came the complicity. It has always been very clear that the work was based on truth” says Ana Carolina. “Much more than giving voice to a group of people living in exclusion and on the margins of society, I wanted to give them a body and show their beauty”, she adds.
